Molika Linda So

My name Molika So and I am a rising senior at the University North Florida majoring in Data Science with minors in Physics and Mathematics. My partner, Ashley Mojica, and I will be working under Dr. Samiul Hasan and Dr. Shaurya Agarwal to investigate LiDAR-based 3D object detection. Our goal is to analyze KITTI dataset and how different factors (training size, time, object class) impact object detection results.

Jayla Smalls

Hello, my name is Jayla Smalls. I am a rising senior, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Information Science & Technology, Spring 2023 from the University of South Carolina Beaufort. In Summer 2022, I will be working with Dr. Hyoung Cho, Dr. Lotzi Boloni, and graduate students on Project 5, “Biopolymer Based Sensors and Actuators”. The goal of this project is to manufacture sensors that can detect toxic substances in a solution.

Douglas Shu

My name is Douglas Shu and I will soon be a senior computer engineering major at the University of Florida. I am working with Alex to figure out properties of different types of fur under flowing liquids. I have been using MATLAB to track the tip of the fur and Python for the machine learning aspect. The machine learning includes multiple models so that we can compare their results.

Priscilla Shania Ramos

Priscilla Ramos is a Junior at Montclair State University in New Jersey, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. At the SREAL Synthetic Reality Lab, I’m working on a project involving HoloLens and IoT devices alongside Dr. Gregory Welch and Dr. Gerd Bruder. Our objective is to use the Microsoft HoloLens to differentiate between distinct virtual reality biases caused by lighting constraints. We’ll make this project with the Unity Game Engine and APIs from several IoT devices. We anticipate that this research project will have a wide range of consumer and industrial applications to enrich and improve the user experience of AR glasses and IoT devices.

Ashley Dorado Mojica

My name is Ashley Mojica and I am currently a rising junior at the University of Central Florida majoring in Computer Science. This summer, I am working with Molika So under the guidance of Dr. Samiul Hasan and Dr. Shaurya Agarwal. We are investigating the capabilities of 3D LiDAR-based object detection (particularly, the SECOND method) to determine the relationship between mean average precision, sample size, and training time.

Meelad Doroodchi

Hi my name is Meelad Doroodchi and I am a rising junior from Charlotte but I attend Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. I am currently working on a research project, “The Effects of Virtual Representation in a Virtual Environment.” We are looking at different conditions such as lighting or the environment similar to real-world situations in Augmented Reality using the Hololens. I am a Data Science major with a Computer Science & Business minor. Along with becoming a Resident Advisor, I am a player on the Men’s basketball team as well. Thank you!

Alex Carter

Hey y’all! My name is Alex Carter, and I am a senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. My project is The Interaction of Animal Furs with Water Flow to Identify Biologically-Driven Anti-Fouling Mechanisms. This project takes data characteristic of the mechanical behavior of animal furs in different flow states in water and other fluids using high speed videos and is able to be applied to machine learning models. These models learn to predict how any mammal from semi-aquatic to terrestrial in any flow state may react and how this reaction is related to fouling resistance of the coats of a given mammal. Unrelated to research, however, I love to do non-engineering things too! I love playing guitar, singing, going to the gym, running and being outdoors, eating food and drinking coffee. I have a running list of about 60 different food and coffee places or small cities and outdoor spaces I have visited or intend to visit while in Orlando to keep exploring the surrounding areas! I adore travelling and discovering new, hidden gems wherever I am.

Anthony Bishop-Gylys

Hi! My name is Anthony Bishop-Gylys and I’m a rising junior at Brown University concentrating in engineering and environmental studies. This summer, I’m creating a program that will return an optimal microgrid design for a user-provided set of data and cost parameters. We hope that this will be useful for future work in realistically modelling microgrid components, for policymakers trying to implement microgrids on a budget, and for demonstrating the application of machine learning to power grid design.
